Frequently Asked Questions – HindiUSA MDCR Frederick

Registration & General Info

1. How do I register my child?
Registration opens in the first week of April and runs until Sept 7 each year.
Visit www.HindiUSASchool.org/registration and select "MDCR Hindi School" to register.

2. What’s the minimum age and class schedule?

  • Age: 5 years or older (Kindergarten & above)

  • When & Where: Fridays, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Sugarloaf Elementary School, 3400 Stone Barn Dr, Frederick, MD 21704

3. Who teaches and what resources are used?
We follow HindiUSA’s official curriculum with 9 levels of Hindi instruction. Students use textbooks, homework books, Hindi Math, activity books, and both digital & physical flashcards.

4. What are the fees?

  • $325/year (or $275 if registered before July 15) – includes textbooks.

  • Sibling: $300/year (or $250 before July 15).


Class Placement & Structure

5. How is my child’s level decided?
Placement is based on age & Hindi knowledge, with adjustments possible after assessment in the first 2 weeks.

6. Class size & teachers?
About 8 students/class (up to 12). Usually 2 teachers per class.

7. Do all students speak Hindi at home?
No – we welcome students from all backgrounds, including non-Hindi-speaking families.


Assessments & Homework

8. How is grading done?
Midterm & final exams (70%+ to pass), plus homework, attendance, and participation in cultural activities.

9. Can my child skip tests?
No – assessments are an important part of learning.

10. Is it stressful?
Not at all – we use games, poems, activities, and interactive tools to make learning enjoyable.

11. What if a class is missed?
Students should complete missed homework before attending the next class.


Attendance, Practice & Skills

12. Attendance policy?
90% attendance recommended, 70% minimum required.

13. How can students practice at home?
Regular homework, Hindi conversation, watching Hindi videos, and using our online flashcard portal.

14. Focus – speaking or writing?
We teach speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension, starting with speaking in younger levels.

15. Homework load?
~15–30 mins/week depending on class level.

16. Do students fail?
Rarely – only if attendance and participation are low; students may repeat a level if needed.


Cultural Activities & Benefits

17. Are there cultural events?
Yes – 2 major events (Kavya Paath & Cultural Festival) plus smaller celebrations linked to Indian festivals.

18. Does Hindi count for school language credit?
Not directly, but we provide certificates and guidance for the Seal of Biliteracy.

19. Where can I see the syllabus & books?

Books, Cancellations & Refunds

20. When are books distributed?
On the first day of class.

21. How will I know if classes are canceled?
We will notify parents via email and/or WhatsApp. Snow days may be conducted online.

22. Refund policy?
Nonrefundable.

24. Why can’t I join the online school?
Online schools are for families without a local branch. Since we have a physical school in Frederick, MD, local families must register here.
